IDENTIFYING THE CORRECT FLUE FOR YOUR FIRE:

The information below is only to be used as a guide to which gas fire is suitable for your home as each home has its own individual circumstances.

In the majority of cases the guide should apply however we do not guarantee that any fire chosen will be suitable for your chimney/flue/wall.

Occasionally a small amount of remedial building work may need to be carried out.

please feel free to contact us to assist you with this.

Brick Chimney

The classic brick built chimney is suitable for all gas fires and stoves on our website.

Brick chimneys are easily recognisable, They have a chimney stack with a terracotta pot or a gas terminal. You will also have a deep chimney breast on either the inside or outside wall.

As brick chimneys are deep this allows you to choose from the full range of available fires. From shallow bedded fires right through to deep models.

Pre-cast flues

Pre-cast flues are found in newer houses. They are suitable for a wide range of slim line gas fires.

They can be identified by a raised ridge vent on the roof.

Pre cast flues are usually constructed from concrete or clay blocks, running inside your wall, they can be very shallow in depth. Sometimes have a shallow false chimney breast running up the wall.

Pre Fabricated Flue

Pre fabricated flues are suitable for a large majority of gas fires and stoves. They are found in older houses, where the original chimney has been lined, or in a newer house where a steel flue has been built in.

They can be identified by a metal flue terminal on the roof.

Power flue

A power flue is an open fronted gas fire. It uses an electronically driven fan unit mounted on the outside wall to expel the flue gasses directly outside the building.

Power flues are designed for use where no flue is available or in homes where the chimney/flue is no longer functioning.

They must be installed on an external wall.

Please note mains electricity is required to operate the fan. You will also need adequate clearance for the fumes as well as suitable ventilation. Please check with your corgi installer.

Balanced Flue

A balanced flue is a glass fronted appliance which vents directly through an outside wall via a horizontal pipe in the back of the fire. An electricity supply is not required.

Balanced flue fires are designed for homes with no chimney or flue, or in homes where the chimney/flue is no longer functioning.

They must be installed on an external wall.

You will also need adequate clearance for the fumes as well as suitable ventilation. Please check your corgi installer.

Flueless

Flueless fires do not require a chimney or flue as they use a catalytic converter which converts harmful gasses to carbon dioxide ( safe gas )

They can be installed on either an internal or external wall and the fire burns at100% efficiency.

Adequate room size and ventilation are required for flueless fires. Please check with your gas installer.

Please note a gas supply is necessary to operate a flueless fire.
